Costas Takkas extradited to the USA
Bern, 22.03.2016 - Costas Takkas, former secretary-general of the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) and attaché to the president of the Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), was extradited to the USA today. Two US police officers took charge of him in Zurich and accompanied him on the flight to New York.
Costas Takkas was arrested in Zurich along with six other FIFA officials on 27 May 2015, on the basis of an arrest request from the USA. The Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) approved his extradition to the USA on 9 October 2015. Takkas's appeal against this decision to the Federal Criminal Court was rejected in the Court's decision of 3 March 2016. Takkas renounced to lodge an appeal with the Federal Supreme Court.
Appeal by Julio Rocha also rejected
Julio Rocha, former President of the Nicaraguan Football Federation, is therefore the only FIFA official still in Swiss custody. The FOJ approved his extradition to the USA on 15 October 2015, giving it precedence over extradition to Nicaragua. His appeal against this decision to the Federal Criminal Court was rejected with the Court's decision of 16 March 2016. This decision is not yet legally binding as Rocha has ten days in which to lodge an appeal with the Federal Supreme Court.
