At football events abroad, particularly the European Championship and the World Cup, fedpol acts as the National Football Information Point (NFIP). fedpol will therefore be sending an NFIP delegation to the 22nd World Cup finals in Qatar, to be comprised of six officers from cantonal and city police forces and from fedpol itself.
A mobile team will be on duty in the stadiums, the fan zones and the hot spots around Doha, while two fedpol liaison officers will be based at the International Police Coordination Centre (IPCC). The delegation is working closely with national and international partners, such as the Swiss Embassy in Doha and the Swiss Football Association.
The Swiss NFIP delegation acts as a link between Swiss fans and the Qatari security forces. The deployment comes at the request of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Security and Safety Operations Committee of the Qatari Ministry of Interior, and is welcomed by all participating states. NFIP deployments have been standard practice at World Cup and European Championship finals since 2010.
This deployment of a fedpol delegation will help to ensure the safety of Swiss fans at the venue.
