Rapid Response Fund (RRF) 2025–2026

Within the Framework credit on migration, amounting to 200 million Swiss Francs, the Rapid Response Fund (RRF) is reserved for projects responding to short-term needs in the area of migration. This fund, which is part of the second Swiss contribution and runs until 2029, is deployed in one or more EU Member States in the event of a crisis resulting in particular from sudden and large-scale migratory movements.

The general objective of the RRF is to strengthen migration management structures in the EU member states. The fund aims at reinforcing the capacity of non-state actors to intervene rapidly with focussed actions in case of an urgent need.

The RRF is a specific instrument managed directly by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), who is in charge of the selection of projects, which can be submitted by different stakeholders with relevant experience in the field of migration, such as international organisations and NGOs. The Fund will support projects focusing on migration in the areas of asylum, infrastructure, voluntary return and reintegration as well as integration with the aim of preventing secondary migration.

The RRF appeal for 2025–2026 has now been closed. Based on a list of criteria reflecting current migratory movements, their impact on Switzerland, as well as previous funding through the Swiss contribution, nine projects were selected in Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Priority was given to projects in the thematic areas of voluntary return and reintegration, projects focusing on persons seeking protection coming from Ukraine, and projects affected by a discontinuation of funding.

As a significant part of the RRF budget has already been allocated in previous years, no further appeal is planned for 2026; the next RRF appeal is scheduled for 2027.
