Example 1 – Legal stay

Select the “Planning” option to calculate the number of days in which a third-state national, regardless of visa obligation status, may stay within the Schengen Area.

During a routine check at the Zurich Airport in Switzerland on 30 September 2014, the police inspect the travel document of a third-state national.
This travel document shows the following entry stamp:

Entry Departure
15.08.2014

Upon departure on 30 September 2014, this person would like to know how much longer he may remain within the Schengen Area when making a return trip scheduled for 1 January 2015.

After entering the dates, click on the "Calculate" button.

Based on the listing of entry and departure dates on the left side, we can see the number of days that have been used up per stay (47 days).

The calculation shows that the third-state national may remain for 90 more days within the given 180-day period if he returns to the Schengen Area on 1 January 2015.
